Roy Hodgson to leave Palace at the end of the season
After 4 years there where they finished 11th, 12th & 14th and are currently 13th.
At 73 he has managed 16 teams in eight countries in 45 years, including the likes of Inter Milan and Udinese, as well as the Switzerland, UAE and Finland national teams. And England where he won 3 of 11 tournament games.

Palace have an ageing squad with many players out of contract and probably not much money.
Perfect opportunity for Frank Lampard

Even at the age of 95, he's one of the finest small club managers still out there.

If I was a Palace fan I would not be happy with Lampard anywhere near that club. With only a short spell at Derby before being promoted above his ability in a heart over head moment for Abramovich, he has simply not got the experience needed at this point for a job like that...

Comes across as a really nice fella let's hope he has a long happy and healthy retirement.

Its not as long a period but Palace fans getting bored with him has a touch of 'Curbishley at Charlton' about it.
Not sure what his health is like but suspect that dealing with the modern player may have become too tiresome.

Fulham, West Brom & Palace were the perfect clubs for him.
Liverpool not so much

A nice guy, Roy. But he's been stealing a living since he was appointed as England boss (a job he only received because the FA were terrified of appointing Redknapp). He's at least ten years out of date, tactically.

Hope he has a great retirement - a man schooled in European football. We all become old farts eventually!

Re: Roy Hodgson to leave Palace at the end of the season
Lampard's 'success' at Derby was because he could borrow Mason Mount, Harry Wilson & I think Tomori.
Sacked at Chelsea for good reason
Am only keen for him to get Palace as it will be a very tough job that is likely to be well beyond him.
Especially if Zaha hands in a transfer request on day 1

Lampard will fit right in.

Cunt of a bloke at a cunt of a club.

Gloucester Iron,

Not that I like sticking up for Lampard, but if clubs like Palace don't go for an inexperienced coach the only other option always seems to be the same group of ageing English managers, eg Pardew, Allardyce and Pulis, and Palace have had all 3 of them already!

Re: Roy Hodgson to leave Palace at the end of the season
In all fairness to Lampard (not too often I say that), Palace is actually perfect for him. They don't expect even a top 10 finish, and generally celebrate the moment they are mathematically safe from relegation. So he won't have the pressure he was under at Chelsea.

He'll do OK there - and he'll get more time than he had at Chelsea. But it's Palace. And it's Frank. So I won't spend too much time worrying about it all.

Lampard will, during the course of his career, manage...

Derby (tick)
Chelsea (tick)
Palace (likely tick)
Fulham
Q.P.R.
Rangers
Southampton

Possibly Watford instead of Southampton.

Absolutely useless cunt of a manager. Didn't seem it fit to face the press after the Iceland humiliation after what he was getting paid. Got Kane to take the corners.

Best thing he did was to fuck up Liverpool for a bit.

Re: Roy Hodgson to leave Palace at the end of the season
He'd never get the Rangers job; there's an expectation of winning. The turnaround with Gerrard at the helm has given us a glimpse of how Gerrard himself will progress, and I'd wager he'll significantly outperform Lampard when he gets the Liverpool hot seat.

Rangers will want to continue on the foundations Gerrard leaves behind, not get an egomaniac in with a superiority complex who pisses of fans and players alike. Great player in his day, but comes across like an arsehole.

I get that mate, but the thing that all of those have in common, whether you rate them as managers or not, is that they have all enjoyed long careers with each having a modicum of success as managers.

Lampard, I'd argue, is on the cusp of being a somewhat typical example of someone being offered top level management roles on the back of being an exceptional player in his time because, let's be honest, that's exactly what he was - an exceptionally good player.

No love lost between WHU fans and him for well documented reasons, but just because you've had that type of career does not mean that you're automatically going to transfer that ability into man management and coaching - see also Wayne Rooney.

So no, if I was a Palace fan I'd be fucking worried if he rocked up next season...
